Knipton
All Saints
Knipton is attractively sited in the wooded valley of the little River Devon. It is an estate village to Belvoir
Castle and as such reflects this in the majority of buildings. The Church, dedicated to 'All Saints' is set in
the heart of the village. It has a bold west tower built partly in the 13th c. A top storey was added in the
15th c. Much of the rest of the building dates from these periods and was heavily restored between 1845-
6 and again in 1869 when the South aisle was added. The interior is attractive and cool with its white
walls adding much to the feeling of a prayerful place. It has always been well maintained.
7 harps at Knipton
On the weekend before St Michael and all Angels, a harp workshop took place at Knipton church, let by
Lisa Wright and Rev'd Rowena Bass. 7 harps and 7 harpists set up in the church for 2 hours of music-
making. Duets were rehearsed, solos were polished, and much tuning was done! We then stopped for a
well-earned break, filled with tea and cakes, before greeting the audience for a short concert.
The harpists ranged in age from 8 to 55; included in the programmed were solos from harp examination
repertoire, duets ranging from folk-songs to Beethoven, and even a
flute and harp duo. Many members of the audience expressed their
enjoyment and appreciation, and it was generally agreed to be a
wonderful afternoon, which should be repeated! We also raised some
much-needed funding for Knipton church.
A huge thankyou to Lisa, and all the harpists who attended (not
forgetting mums and dads/partners, who transported harps)
